Why does the hallway on the 12th floor look so busted? (264 views)

What happened up there? I went up just to see if there was a view from the windows and found the carpet was dirty and all the walls looked like they had recently been repaired. Was there a flood or a burst pipe up there or something?

And what does one find if he keeps climbing the stairs beyond the 12th floor? I was afraid to look!
